Are the Storms Going to Quench California’s Thirst for Water?

Then the rains came….and came with a vengence to drought-stricken California, which has seen her groundwater basins at historic lows, her lakes bone dry, and her farmers fighting the city folk for water.   Mark Twain was right when he said “whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting.”

IMG_0263Water became California’s gold the past four years as farmers fought with city folks, Republicans fought with Democrats on how best to distribute the state’s meager water supply.  California is the “bread basket of America.”   It produces the bulk of nuts, fruits and vegetables. But for the past hour years, field have been fallowed or abandoned. Without water, you can’t grow anything.
